If you own the Government Model MK/IV Series 80, it began life in 1983 with serial number FG01000. They stopped making 38 Super and 9mm in 1992. By 1996, .45 ACP with rubber combat style grips and rampant Colt medallions. Assuming yours is a .45 ACP, Blue finish until 1997, also offered in '97 were fixed white dot sights, Nickel finish until 1986, Satin Nickel and blue came with Pachmayr grips 'till 1996, Stainless 'till 1998, Ultimate Bright Stainless 1986-96, Limited Class 1994-97, Custom Comp.
