Hi,
Usually sticky notes are stored in a single, hidden file: C:UsersUserNameAppDataRoamingMicrosoftSticky NotesStickyNotes.snt

If you want to see the sticky notes, you have to unhide the hidden files.
To unhide the files, follow the steps given below.
1. Open Windows Explorer.
2. Press the Alt key to view the File Menu
3. Go to Tools, select Folder Options
4. Go to View tab and select Show hidden files, folders and drives.
5. Also, uncheck Hide empty drives in the Computer Folder and Hide extensions for Known file types.
Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other issues with Windows in future.

My question was posted under Windows 8.1 and my subject line specifically mentioned that question related to Windows 8.1. Was the answer related to Windows 8.1?

  • In Windows 8.1, File Menu does not have Tools and Folder Options
  • In Windows 8.1, View does not follow the path as suggested by you, File Menu >> Tools>> Folder Options
  • In Windows 8.1, View Menu is independent of File Menu
  • In Windows 8.1, View Menu has the Options, which in turn, gives Change Folder and Search Options
  • In Windows 8.1, View Menu >> Options >> Change Folder and Search Options >> Folder Options >> View Tab gives Hidden Files and Folders, which in turn, has two options, and Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives was already pre-selected in my case

Hence, there was nothing to do for me in addition to what had already been done and yet path to sticky notes was not identifiable.

Therefore, I used your suggestion, C:UsersUserNameAppDataRoamingMicrosoftSticky NotesStickyNotes.snt (I did replace UserName with my username) but I got a popup message asking me 'How do you want to open this type of file (.snt)'? I am sure, a Support Engineer would have known that every PC user cannot be expected to know the answer. So, it was due for a clarification, or else, an incomplete reply like this does not serve any purpose.

Would it be out of place to make a small request that if the answer was given with reference to Windows 8.1 then it would have helped me but, in this case, it provided me with no solution, and I had to explain what Windows 8.1 like, which only added to my work?
